Creative/Woman

All my life, I’ve been inspired by women who create amid all the varying responsibilities that come with being a woman.

So, I created a safe space for brave women who love to create.

This group is for the woman who has a passion to create and to make. She knows that her daily responsibilities do not allow her to just create, and that those things that take her away from creating also aid in her creations.

Here, women can help women through encouragement, advice, empathy and practical suggestions.

Why the slash?

In 2007, Marci Alboher wrote a book called One Person/Multiple Careers: How “The Slash Effect” Can Work for You. The slash effect is referring to someone who may be an accountant/jewerly maker, or an educator/writer (like me!). People who make the slash effect work for them end up often getting greater satisfaction out of life because they are honoring that they are made up of multitudes.

I realized that being a woman and being creative fit this exactly. Whether our days are filled with caring for children and/or grandchildren, working full time, being involved in the community, etc. these elements of living as a modern woman inevitably trickle into our creativity in one way or another. But the reality of a slash existence is that the creativity is going to trickle into life as a woman and how we deal with things around us as well.

That’s lovely, but I’m not “CREATIVE”

Oh, my friend, but you are. Whether it is trying out new recipes, considering new ways to layout furniture in a living room, or seeing shapes among the clouds in the sky, everyone is creative. Some of us just forgot that we were or had a well-meaning but clueless adult tell us that we were silly, which scared us from practicing our creativity. It takes a lot of bravery to admit to our creativity after such situations, which is why the group is called a BRAVE space. If you aren’t sure, come and linger for a while. I bet after a few conversations (you can totally eavesdrop and not say a word), you will start to rediscover how creative you really are.
